Even while renewable energy companies and experts are furiously analyzing how the money from last month’s economic stimulus package will be distributed, some are looking ahead to what may be the next landmark legislation affecting the industry: the expected cap-and-trade system the Obama Administration may try to implement by 2012. Besides leveling the playing field for many renewable sources, the impacts of such a system would be expansive – including a possibly substantial increase in consumer energy prices. In any case, it’s shaping up to be a political fight for the ages in Washington, D.C.
