After last month’s announcement that it had completed a $34-million financing round, Lakewood-based ZeaChem announced today that it had selected CH2M Hill to develop its demonstration biorefinery in Oregon. Construction will begin in 2009 and the plant is expected to be operational during the first quarter of next year. While commercial-scale ethanol plants produce around 100 million gallons per year, this demonstration biorefinery will produce around 1 million gallons – creating ethanol from softwood, hardwood, corn leaves, stalks and other biomass.
